Jesus Heals a Man Born Blind
“‘Look!’ the man exclaimed. ‘I told you once. Didn’t you listen? Why do you want to hear it again? Do you want to become his disciples, too?’” (John 9:27)
There is a reason women plan elaborate ways to tell their husbands and family when they are pregnant or throw entire parties dedicated to gender reveals – we love to share good news. There is nothing like telling your parents they are going to be grandparents or finding out you are going to have a niece or nephew. When you have such good news, you cannot help but tell people around you so they can share in the excitement.
When Jesus came across a blind man on the road one day, He took the opportunity to demonstrate the power of God. He spit on the ground, making mud, then spread the mud over the blind man’s eyes. He told the man to go wash his eyes and when he returned, the man could see! It was a powerful miracle, but the man’s neighbors and others who knew him were confused when they saw him. “Who healed you? What happened?” they asked. The man who had been healed was quick to say that Jesus had miraculously healed him. No one believed him. They assumed the man who healed him was a fraud and that only God could do something so powerful.
The man continued to tell those who doubted that this man was born from God. “I told you once. Don’t you listen?” the man told them. “Don’t you want to become his disciples, too?” When something so shocking and incredible happened the him, the man who had been born blind could not help but tell others about it. He wanted to share the good news because he had seen Jesus, the son of God, perform a miracle right in front of Him. He refused to be silent and instead, he told everyone what Jesus has done for him. His story encouraged others to believe just as he believed.
Questions to think about:
- Has God done something incredible in your life that you want to share with others?
- Consider writing out a testimony of how God has worked in your life.
- Who is someone you can share this testimony with in order to bring glory to God and His power?
