The Parable of the Lost Coin | I will never give up on Jesus.
Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord will personally go ahead of you. He will be with you; he will neither fail you nor abandon you.
Deuteronomy 31:8 NLT
Jesus was speaking to a group of tax collectors and other sinners who would often listen to Him teach. Jesus then began to tell a parable about a lost coin. Jesus said: “Or suppose a woman has ten silver coins and loses one. Won’t she light a lamp and sweep the entire house and search carefully until she finds it? And when she finds it, she will call in her friends and neighbors and say, ‘Rejoice with me because I have found my lost coin.’ In the same way, there is joy in the presence of God’s angels when even one sinner repents.”
Back in this time, coins held high sentimental value, similar to the significance of wedding rings today. So as you can imagine, this woman must have been so distressed when she realized she lost her coin. Because of how much the coin meant to her, the woman did not stop looking for her coin until she found it. This is just like how Jesus feels about us. He will never give up looking for us and seeking us out. He will never give up on us because His love for us is immeasurable and unwavering. This is why we must always remember to never give up on Him and always seek His guidance, His voice and His love!
Questions to think about:
- Why did the woman take the time to look for her lost coin?
- How does this parable relate to how Jesus feels about us?
- Why should I never give up on Jesus?
