The Parable of the Two Builders | I will be wise with my choices.
If you need wisdom, ask our generous God and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.
James 1:5 NLT
Jesus was talking to crowds of people when He questioned why they were calling him Lord when they do not follow His ways. He continued to say that “Anyone who listens to my teachings and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock. But anyone who hears my teaching and doesn’t obey it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand. When the rains and floods come and the winds beat against that house, it will collapse with a mighty crash.” The crowds were amazed by Jesus’ teachings because of how he taught with real authority.
When Jesus was sharing this parable, He said that anyone who follows His teachings and follow them are wise. Making wise choices is not based on one’s intelligence. Making wise decisions is not based on how “smart” we are, but rather it is when we know the right thing and then we actually do it. For to us to be wise and make wise choices, we must follow Jesus’ teaching and be obedient to Him. We also must remember that it is not enough to just read God’s word, we must follow what it says as well. Just like the person who lays their foundation on solid rock, we need to have a solid foundation in our faith in order to be able to stand firm during difficult times.
