I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me. -John 14:6

John 14:1-11

Jesus is the Way to the Father

Jesus comforted the disciples as He was preparing for his return back to heaven. Jesus told them, “Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me. There is more than enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? When everything is ready, I will come and get you so that you will always be with me where I am. And you know the way to where I am going. Thomas then expressed that they were actually not sure where Jesus was about to go. Jesus responded by saying, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me. If you had really known me, you would know who my Father is. From now on, you do know Him and have seen Him!”

The disciples quickly learned that Jesus was going to heaven to a prepare a place for all believers. But some of Jesus’ disciples still wanted “proof” that Jesus was going to be with the Father. Jesus wanted them to know that they needed to have faith and believe in Him. This passage in scripture reminds us that when we make the choice to follow Jesus, He lives in us and so does the Father through the Holy Spirit. When we truly have Jesus in our hearts, we can be an example of His love through our actions and words to others. We must also remember that Jesus is the only way to God the Father. If you know Jesus, you know God the Father.

  1. What does it mean to know that Jesus is the way, the truth and the life?
  2. How can I be an example of Jesus’ love to other?
  3. Why is Jesus preparing a home in heaven for us?
