Jesus Feeds a Crowd

Then Jesus took the loaves, gave thanks to God, and distributed them to the people. Afterward he did the same with the fish. And they all ate as much as they wanted.” (John 6:11)

John 6:5-13

On a team, everyone has a different role and plays in a different position. Those positions are determined by the coach based on your skills and abilities. One person cannot win for the whole team, but when each player does their part and contributes within their role, the team can win together. You might not be the best player, but the team can benefit from the skills you offer, however big or small they might be.

When the disciples saw the huge crowd of people who had gathered to hear Jesus teach, they panicked about how they would feed everyone. There was a young boy in the crowd with five loaves of bread and two fish, certainly not enough food for the crowd of 5,000. Jesus accepted the food from the boy and began to distribute it to the crowd. To everyone’s surprise, there was more than enough food for everyone. In fact, there were 12 entire baskets of leftovers at the end of the day.

God is the master of meeting us where we are. He uses the little that we have and takes it from there to do incredible things. The young boy did not have much, just a handful of bread and fish, but Jesus took the little he had and used it to do one of His most incredible miracles.

If we trust in Him, Jesus can continue to do miracles through us, even today. When we surrender our gifts, our time, our plans and even our money to Him, He can multiply it and do incredible work for the Kingdom through us. All we have to do is trust Him and His plan.

Questions to think about:

  1. What are you holding back from God that you need to surrender to Him today?
  2. What is stopping you from trusting Him with that?
  3. Ask God to reveal the sacrifices He needs you to make in order to fulfill His plan through you.
