Noah did everything just as God commanded him. Genesis 6:22
Genesis 6
Have you ever been made fun of for doing the right thing? Maybe everyone else was cheating on a test, but you decided not to or you stood up for a friend who was being bullied. It can be hard to do the right thing, especially when other people do not understand. Imagine the kind of ridicule Noah endured when God told Him to build and ark and prepare for a huge flood. People thought he was crazy!
Generations and generations passed between Adam and Eve and Noah. During this time, humans continued to sin and do things that made God question why He ever made them. He was sad and disappointed in His creation for falling so far into sin. However, there was one man with whom He had hope: Noah. God decided to send a great flood to wipe out humankind and He was going to spare and use Noah to repopulate the Earth.
The Lord spoke very clearly to Noah and gave him specific instructions on how to construct a massive boat to protect himself, his family and all the animals of the Earth from the flood. During this time, there was no sign of rain and Noah’s friends and neighbors must have thought he was crazy. However, Noah persevered and spent years building the great ark that God had commanded him to construct.
Noah listened to God’s instructions and was obedient to Him even when the people around him made poor choices and mocked him. It was not easy, but Noah trusted in God’s plan and knew that following Him was more important than the opinions of people around him. God has instructions for us too. If we spend time in prayer and His Word, He will reveal His plan for each of us.
Questions to think about:
- Describe a time you made the right choice when people around you did not.
- How did God reward Noah for following His instructions?
- How does God reward us for following Him?
