Genesis 1

Most of us are familiar with the story of creation. We can remember that in seven days, God created darkness and light, fish and birds. From nothing, God created everything. Nothing is hard for us to understand because to create something we have to start with something. God spoke into the nothingness and created the heavens and the earth. And out of the nothingness, came us.

King David spoke of the majesty of God’s creation when he said, “The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork” (Psalm 19:1). Paul spoke of creation being so amazing that no one can doubt that God is real (Romans 1:18-19). And the highest point of God’s creation is when He created Adam and Eve. “All of creation reflects God’s glory in its beauty, but human beings are actually created in God’s image” (Machowski, 4). God creation is His masterpiece, but even further, we are His masterpiece. We must recognize and understand that we were created to be loved and we were each shaped for a unique purpose.

The bible says your life matters because God uniquely designed you. In Psalm 139 the bible describes this when it says, “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb…Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be” (Psalm 136:13, 16). You were created for God’s pleasure and He loves you with an everlasting love.
