Although God had already saved the Israelites from the Egyptians, the Israelites still complained to Moses. The Bible tells us that we should be content in all circumstances.

Don’t love money; be satisfied with what you have. For God has said, “I will never fail you. I will never abandon you.” – Hebrews 13:5

Exodus 16-17

God Provides

God had just saved the Israelites by performing the miracle of parting the Red Sea. As God led His people through the wilderness, the Israelites began to complain to Moses and told him “if only we had died in Egypt.” The Lord then told Moses that He would provide for His people and have food rain down from heaven for them. However, every morning the Israelites continued to still complain to Moses about being thirsty. When Moses cried out, God told Moses to strike the rock. Water then came out of the rock for the people to drink.

When we are going through a difficult time in our lives, especially involving the loss of a loved one, physical pain or even anxiety, it can seem impossible to feel satisfied or content. Although God had just saved the Israelites from the Read Sea, they still chose to complain in the desert to Moses. However, the Bible tells us that we should be content in all circumstances and focus on how incredible God’s promises are. Even in the darkest of times, we can be at peace knowing and trusting that God is in control of our circumstances.

I can be content in all circumstances.

QUESTIONS TO THINK ABOUT:

1. What does being content mean to me?
2. Am struggling to feel contentment right now?
3. How can I be content with what I already have?
